Chelsea striker João Pedro sparks online buzz with LinkedIn debut

In a quiet London flat on Thursday the 24th, Chelsea striker João Pedro logged onto LinkedIn, a move that sent the football world into a rare online stir. The Brazilian forward, sidelined by a muscle injury, opened an official profile that simply listed him as “Athlete at Chelsea Football Club” and set his professional address as London, England.

LinkedIn debut draws online buzz

Screenshots of the new page quickly circulated through fan groups and sport‑humour pages. The images, captioned “Foto: Reprodução”, showed the sparse entry that omitted academic history, certifications or a cover letter, confirming only that the striker provides services for a Premier League giant. The straightforward approach sparked immediate curiosity among internet users.

Social media users seized the contrast between corporate networking and a football star’s routine, flooding the post with jokes about a supposed job‑search. Some fans even drafted fictitious salary offers and imagined transfer deals for clubs of their own allegiance. The reaction highlighted how unusual it is for a top‑flight player to adopt a platform normally reserved for corporate professionals.

National team implications amid injury

While the LinkedIn profile attracted attention, João Pedro remained in medical recovery from the muscle problem that kept him out of training. He had initially been called up by the Brazil national team for the current international window but was withdrawn because of the physical issue.

Coach Carlo Ancelotti therefore summoned midfielder Martinelli from Fluminense to join the Brazilian squad for the upcoming Oceania and Asian fixtures. The change meant the Blues striker would miss Brazil’s friendly against Australia on Friday the 25th in Townsville.

Brazil will open the series in Townsville, facing the Socceroos, before concluding its preparation against South Korea on Tuesday the 29th. Both matches form part of the national team’s build‑up ahead of future competitions, with João Pedro’s absence noted by observers.
