Chelsea set to offer R$ 593 million for Enzo Fernández’ midfield fix

Chelsea have opened a new transfer plan after Enzo Fernández’s last‑minute switch to Manchester City left a midfield void, and after a failed bid for Monaco’s Lamine Camara; the Blues now target Atlético de Madrid’s Pablo Barrios, a player they are ready to value at roughly R$ 593 million (about €100 million).

Chelsea’s midfield problem and target

Enzo Fernández’s last‑minute switch to Manchester City left Chelsea with a clear gap in the centre of the park. A simultaneous attempt to sign Monaco’s Lamine Camara fell through, prompting the Blues to start fresh planning for the next window.

According to the newspaper Sport, the club have earmarked Atlético de Madrid midfielder Pablo Barrios as the “perfect substitute”. Chelsea are prepared to put forward roughly €100 million – about R$ 593 million – for the 23‑year‑old. Manager Xabi Alonso believes Barrios can thrive at Stamford Bridge and will complement Moisés Caicedo with physicality and creativity.

Potential hurdles and club’s transfer outlook

Atlético de Madrid are expected to resist any offer, as Barrios is a key figure in Diego Simeone’s creative set‑up. The Spaniards have a €500 million release clause on the player, adding a further financial hurdle.

Barrios suffered a posterior thigh muscle injury that ruled him out of the latter stages of the 2026/27 season and kept him from the World Cup. Despite the setback, his performances last season cemented his status as a vital component of the Metropolitano side.

Chelsea’s summer activity has already seen the Blues spend just over €400 million on arrivals across defence and attack, while generating close to €450 million from sales. The resulting surplus made them the most lucrative club in the European market this summer.
