Chelsea's softened price tag revives PSG's pursuit of Malo Gusto
Chelsea appear ready to lower their asking price for France international right‑back Malo Gusto, opening a fresh route for Paris Saint‑Germain to negotiate a transfer. The Blues had originally set a valuation of around £75 million during the summer window, a figure that effectively shut most suitors out.
Chelsea's revised price tag
CaughtOffside reported that the Blues had originally demanded roughly £75 million for Gusto, a sum that priced interested clubs, including PSG and Manchester City, out of the market. The club’s stance has now softened, which says Chelsea are prepared to listen to offers that reflect the player’s current market value.
The shift represents a notable change from the earlier valuation, signalling that the Blues may be willing to negotiate below the previous ceiling. Sources close to the club say any revised figure would still need to respect Gusto’s long‑term contract, which runs until 2030.
Gusto, who has made six appearances across all competitions in the 2026/27 season, remains a regular feature in the squad. His contract until 2030 gives Chelsea considerable control over his future.
Paris Saint‑Germain eye Chelsea right‑back after Zidane snubs him
What sets Gusto apart is his genuine flexibility; he has operated at right‑back, left‑back and even in midfield during his Chelsea tenure. This adaptability allows him to function as a conventional full‑back, an attacking wing‑back or a more central defensive option when required.
PSG's search for right‑side depth
Paris Saint‑Germain are keen to add depth and competition on the right flank of their defence, particularly as cover for Achraf Hakimi. The club values Gusto’s ability to switch between defensive and offensive duties without being confined to a single role.
Retaining Gusto also offers Chelsea insurance against the injury‑prone Reece James, whose fitness history makes a reliable backup essential. Replacing Gusto could cost the Blues almost as much as they would receive for him, according to club insiders.
If PSG present a genuinely strong offer, the softened price tag could see the France international move to Paris. Absent such an offer, Chelsea are likely to keep Gusto, preserving squad depth while maintaining control over his long‑term future.
