Chelsea’s six‑figure deal for Malard fuels Blues’ WSL push in London

Chelsea have secured Manchester United forward Melvine Malard on a four‑year contract, paying a sizeable six‑figure transfer fee to bring the 26‑year‑old to the Blues, as confirmed by a press release to WSL Full‑Time this afternoon, marking the London club’s third summer signing.

Chelsea targeted Malard for her proven output in England’s top flight. Over the past three seasons in the Barclays Women’s Super League she logged 95 appearances for Manchester United and scored 23 goals, demonstrating the consistency the Blues seek. Her ambition to win trophies aligns with the club’s objectives.

The French forward first arrived at Manchester United on loan from OL Lyonnes before the deal was made permanent, confirming her adaptation to the English game. She has earned 41 caps and 14 goals for France, underscoring her international pedigree.

After the announcement, Malard said, "I’m so happy because I have a plan for my life and my career, and Chelsea were a part of that plan. It is a great club and a big club so I am very excited to get started." She added, "I have known Sonia [Bompastor] since I was 14 years old, so it is great to work with her again. My objective is to become better every single day and to win trophies." She also praised the atmosphere at Stamford Bridge, noting that the pitch’s proximity to the fans creates an "incredible" energy she looks forward to experiencing regularly.

For Chelsea, the signing adds a forward with proven WSL experience and international quality, bolstering the Blues’ attack as they chase domestic titles. Manchester United, meanwhile, lose a player who contributed 23 goals in three seasons, prompting them to seek a replacement to maintain their offensive options.
