Chelsea's £70m bid targets Liverpool's World Cup star Mac Allister

Chelsea are preparing a £70 million bid for Liverpool’s 27‑year‑old midfielder Alexis Mac Allister, the Argentine World Cup star, as the Blues look to secure a direct answer to the Reds’ looming midfield departures ahead of the new season in the Premier League.

Chelsea see Mac Allister as a direct answer to the likely loss of several key midfielders as Liverpool prepare for a potential midfield overhaul. The Reds could face a shake‑up this summer, with several players whose contracts run out in 2027 potentially leaving the club and creating a sizeable gap in the middle of the park.

Curtis Jones, the playmaker valued at £35 million, is chief among the uncertain midfielders and has attracted interest from Inter Milan. Harvey Elliott and Stefan Bajcetic are also listed as potential departures, which would further thin Liverpool’s midfield options.

Mac Allister himself remains a key issue, with his contract expiring in 2028 and no new deal discussed to date. Liverpool’s board plan to open negotiations with the Argentine after the World Cup tournament.

Chelsea, led by manager Xabi Alonso, are weighing a formal £70 million offer, while Real Madrid also linger as a rival suitor. The fee could climb to £80 million, a figure referenced against the recent £116 million sale of Elliot Anderson to Manchester City.

The Blues will keep communication lines open with Mac Allister’s entourage until the 1 September deadline. Currently on his summer break, Mac Allister is not expected to feature in Liverpool’s opening Premier League match against Newcastle. Liverpool must decide whether to entertain Chelsea’s proposal while managing Real Madrid’s interest, a decision that will shape the Reds’ midfield composition for the upcoming campaign.
