Chelsea's €55 million Camara deal collapses, sparking fury at Monaco

Chelsea’s €55 million bid for Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara fell apart on deadline day, leaving the Blues without the Enzo Fernández replacement they had been courting. The collapse comes after the club completed Enzo Fernández’s £125 million move to Manchester City. The setback arrived in the final minutes of the transfer window.

Chelsea had sold Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernández to Manchester City for £125 million and were hunting a direct replacement. Lamine Camara emerged as the prime target to fill the creative void.

The Senegalese midfielder agreed a six‑year contract with an optional extra year and completed his medical in the Principado. The Blues were reported to have sealed the deal for €55 million.

Monaco forced to pick Camara

Monaco, coached by Filipe Luís, had already lost Maghnes Akliouche, Aladji Bamba, Caio Henrique and Kassou Ouattara, tightening its finances. The club decided it could only sell either Camara or striker Folarin Balogun on deadline day.

Despite the setback, Chelsea chose to honour the £125 million Enzo Fernández transfer to Manchester City. Manager Xabi Alonso now relies on Moisés Caicedo, Roméo Lavia, Jordan Henderson, Valentín Barco and improvised full‑backs Reece James and Malo Gusto for midfield depth.
