Chelsea’s £34.3 million bid pressures Alonso’s rebuild
Chelsea have moved to sign 18‑year‑old Bosnian international Kerim Alajbegovic from Bayer Leverkusen for a reported £34.3 million, a fee manager Xabi Alonso is prepared to meet as the Blues look to free up attacking spots by off‑loading three forwards this summer.
Chelsea are in advanced talks to secure Kerim Alajbegovic, confirming they will meet Bayer Leverkusen’s £34.3 million valuation. TeamTalk reports the Blues have told the Bundesliga club they will pay the full asking price, removing any club‑to‑club barrier.
Both sides have indicated there are no issues over the transfer, leaving only the Bosnian striker’s personal agreement as the final hurdle. Alonso has been transparent that he cannot guarantee Alajbegovic significant first‑team football this season. Alajbegovic is a Bosnia international, adding a national‑team pedigree to the squad.
The Blues view the Bosnian striker as a technical solution to the void left by the departures of three forwards. Alonso’s reputation for valuing technical quality, versatility and intelligence aligns with Alajbegovic’s profile.
To create space for the new signing, Chelsea plan to sanction the exits of three attacking stars this summer. Danny Welbeck is close to signing elsewhere and Liam Delap is also attracting interest.
Chelsea may offer a long‑term development plan that could include a loan to Strasbourg or another side. Juventus, meanwhile, could present a £30 million offer, with Luciano Spalletti promising an immediate first‑team role.
If the player signs, the Blues will complete their attacking overhaul before the summer window closes. Chelsea have put the money down, opened the door and outlined a future, leaving Alajbegovic to decide whether his next step starts now or elsewhere.
