Chelsea's £30m chase for World Cup breakout Kerim Alajbegovic

Chelsea's £30m chase for World Cup breakout Kerim Alajbegovic

Chelsea have moved to sign 18‑year‑old Bundesliga winger Kerim Alajbegovic for a reported £30 million after his World Cup breakthrough, which featured a long‑range goal in Bosnia’s 3‑1 group‑stage win over Qatar that earned him Man of the Match honours recently.

Chelsea prefer to lead transfer negotiations, bringing money, leverage and a clear player profile to the table. This approach drives their pursuit of Alajbegovic, a high‑upside talent who matches their blueprint for young attackers.

The World Cup performance has propelled Alajbegovic’s name into elite recruitment meetings across Europe. According to the Telegraph, his displays have sharply accelerated his rise, making Chelsea the favourites to sign him.

Bayer Leverkusen, who recalled him from Red Bull Salzburg, appear willing to sell for around £30 million. The 18‑year‑old has already logged 13 goals and four assists as a wide attacker in a high‑intensity system.

Earlier interest came from Atalanta and Leeds United, but Chelsea’s ability to meet the asking price and offer a higher‑profile project changes the equation. Personal terms are not expected to be a stumbling block.

The deal would give Chelsea another elite young attacker before his market value rises further, while Leverkusen would secure a sizeable profit. The £30 million fee aligns with Chelsea’s recent willingness to spend bigger, exemplified by the £117 million signing of Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa.
