Chelsea’s €22.5m gamble: Omari Kellyman heads to Strasbourg

Chelsea have agreed to send English midfielder Omari Kellyman, a talent bought for €22.5 million, to Racing Strasbourg, where he will join the French side after only youth appearances for the Blues.

Financial backdrop at Chelsea

Under BlueCo, the finances of FC Chelsea have been busy, highlighted by the €22.5 million deal for Kellyman two years ago.

Wales Online the player is now moving to partner club Strasbourg, while Fussballdaten values his current market value at €2.8 million.

Career path and recent form

Kellyman began his professional steps at Aston Villa before swapping Birmingham for London, and he has only featured for Chelsea’s U21 side.

He spent the previous season on loan at Cardiff City, scoring 11 goals and providing two assists in 42 games, a performance that made the Welsh club a long‑time favourite for a permanent deal.

Chelsea retain the final say and have dispatched the youngster to France, where he will be the third loanee from the partner club after Genesis Antwi and goalkeeper Filip Jörgensen.

Versatile across the attacking midfield, centre‑forward and right‑wing positions, Kellyman’s first two roles are likely to be the most useful for Strasbourg.

With Paraguayan youngster Julio Enciso set to return to Ipswich Town and only the injured Joaquín Panichelli and two loan returnees occupying the central attacking spots, Kellyman’s 1.91 metre height makes him a natural replacement for the slightly shorter Panichelli.
