Chelsea outspends Arsenal in Premier League chase for Morgan Rogers

At Villa Park, the atmosphere shifted as Chelsea announced they had overtaken Arsenal in the Premier League race to sign Morgan Rogers, offering a contract that runs to 2033 and a salary above Arsenal’s proposal. The Blues are prepared to part with a large sum to secure the English winger. Arsenal also expressed strong interest in Morgan Rogers, but Chelsea’s direct offer to the player was deemed superior, prompting the club to move ahead in negotiations. The English club’s bid included not only a higher transfer fee but also more attractive personal terms. Chelsea’s readiness to invest heavily underscores their ambition to bolster an attacking line that has struggled for consistency. The club views Rogers as a perfect fit for their sporting project and a catalyst for Premier League success. For Aston Villa, selling Morgan Rogers would represent a financially significant operation. The forward has featured in 125 matches for Villa, scoring 31 goals and providing 29 assists during his tenure. Rogers’ development began in the academies of West Bromwich Albion and Manchester City before he progressed through Bournemouth, Lincoln City, Blackpool and Middlesbrough. He arrived at Aston Villa at the start of 2024 and quickly became a key player. Transfermarkt values the winger at €90 million, yet Chelsea’s proposed €138 million fee would far exceed that assessment. The deal therefore reflects a substantial premium over the market estimate. Internationally, Morgan Rogers has earned 21 caps for England, the Three Lions, and has scored once. He featured in six World Cup matches, reaching the semi‑final against Argentina. Should the transfer be completed, Rogers would join the ranks of the most expensive English players in football history, highlighting the scale of Chelsea’s investment. Que Chelsea soit une nouvelle fois prêt à investir une somme folle n’a rien de surprenant. Pour Aston Villa, une vente de Morgan Rogers représenterait une opération financière particulièrement intéressante.
