Chelsea loan 28‑year‑old Sánchez to Como as Blues reshuffle goalkeeping

Chelsea have sent 28‑year‑old Spanish goalkeeper Robert Sánchez on loan to Serie A side Como in Italy at the close of the transfer window in Europa, as announced on the clubs’ social‑media channels. The move comes as the Blues look to free up a place after Dibu Martínez arrived, and gives the Italian club a shot‑stopper for its League campaign.

Chelsea’s decision follows the arrival of Argentine keeper Dibu Martínez, which pushed Sánchez down the pecking order. The Spaniard faced criticism from the Blues after a series of inconsistent performances, prompting the club to seek a loan move.

Como seek experienced goalkeeper

Como, set to compete in the 2026‑27 Champions League, needed a proven shot‑stopper. Sánchez brings experience, having started the Club World Cup final in 2025 against PSG in the United States and winning the 2024‑25 Conference League.

The loan gives Sánchez the chance to play regularly in Serie A, while Como gains a goalkeeper accustomed to European competition. For Chelsea, the move frees a squad spot as they will not feature in the Champions League this season.

Sánchez joined Chelsea in 2023 after impressing at Brighton. Since then he added the 2025 Club World Cup title and the 2024‑25 Conference League to his résumé, although his form has fluctuated.

We look forward to supporting Rob throughout his time in Italy. Good luck, Rob!
