Chelsea cashes in on Delap with €52.5m move to Nottingham Forest
Chelsea have confirmed the sale of 23‑year‑old striker Liam Delap to Nottingham Forest, announced on Thursday via the clubs' official channels. The move ends a stalled spell in London and generates a profit of roughly €17 million after a €52.5 million fee.
Transfer fee and profit
Nottingham Forest will pay about €52.5 million for the English forward, a sum that exceeds the amount Chelsea originally paid. The Blues therefore record a gain of approximately €17 million on the transaction.
Last summer Chelsea acquired Delap from Ipswich Town, a deal that saw the East Anglian club receive at least €35.5 million for the striker. That price tag has not been matched by his output in London.
Contract and player reaction
During his time at Chelsea, Delap featured in 47 official matches, contributing three goals and five assists. Those statistics underline the limited impact that prompted the club to move him on.
At Forest, Delap has signed a five‑year contract that runs until the summer of 2031. The long‑term deal reflects the club’s belief in his potential to grow under manager Oliver Glasner.
"I really can’t wait to start, this is a huge club with a rich history," the striker said. "I have spoken with the manager and I like his approach; I think he can help me develop, score goals and build a strong team aiming to become a top Premier League club."
