Chelsea and Arsenal battle for England defender Jarell Quansah

In a bustling London office, scouts from two of the Premier League's biggest clubs pore over a dossier on a 23‑year‑old centre‑back whose future hangs in the balance. Jarell Quansah, the England international, has become the focus of both Chelsea and Arsenal as they weigh a move for the Bayer Leverkusen defender.

Arsenal’s rejected €65 million bid

Arsenal made a €65 million proposal for Quansah during the summer transfer window, but Bayer Leverkusen turned the offer down. Despite the refusal, Mikel Arteta’s side has not abandoned its pursuit and continues to monitor the defender for any new opportunity.

Arteta, who remains the manager of Arsenal, stressed that the club’s interest persists, noting the player’s development since arriving in Germany. The London club now faces competition from Chelsea, who have reportedly initiated contact regarding a possible transfer.

Chelsea joins the chase amid wider European interest

Chelsea’s interest adds another heavyweight to the race, with reports indicating the Blues have reached out to either the player’s representatives, Bayer Leverkusen, or both. Liverpool and Real Madrid are also said to be keeping a close eye on Quansah’s situation.

Quansah moved from Liverpool to Bayer Leverkusen last summer for €35 million, gaining substantially more playing time in the Bundesliga. He featured 44 times last season, amassing over 3,700 minutes and earning recognition with England.

Liverpool retain a buy‑back option that could become relevant next summer, while Bayer Leverkusen have secured the defender on a contract until 2030, giving them a strong negotiating position.

With Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Real Madrid all expressing interest, Quansah’s potential move could become one of the most intriguing transfer stories ahead of 2027. For now, Arsenal remains interested after its previous offer was rejected, and Chelsea’s approach adds another serious contender to the race.
