Charlton Athletic bet on Australian midfield talent Leah Davidson

Charlton Athletic have secured Australian international midfielder Leah Davidson on a two‑year contract, announced on the club’s website this morning, as the 25‑year‑old Addicks player arrives at The Valley after six seasons in the Ninja A‑League with Melbourne City in England.

Charlton Athletic are undertaking an active rebuild of their squad, with Davidson becoming the fourth signing of the summer window. The Addicks aim to inject fresh midfield experience as they look to fill gaps left by departing players.

The club confirmed a two‑year deal for the Australian midfielder, publishing the news on its website early Thursday. The 25‑year‑old will join the team at The Valley, bringing her Ninja A‑League pedigree to the English game.

During her six‑year spell at Melbourne City, Davidson helped the side secure three consecutive Ninja A‑League titles and added a championship win in the most recent season. Those honours underline the experience Charlton seek to add to their midfield.

Before moving to England, Davidson spent time with Brisbane Roar and APIA Leichhardt, gaining exposure to different Australian football environments.

On the international stage, she has earned four caps for Australia and scored once, demonstrating her ability to perform at senior level.

After signing, Davidson said, “I spent six years at Melbourne City, and honestly can’t say a bad word about the club. Loved it, grew as a player and a person, but I thought I can’t say no to this opportunity, and I can’t wait to get started.” She added, “I’d probably say I’m most looking forward to playing the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City, all of them big clubs. I know it’ll be challenging, but I’m so excited for them.”

The Addicks anticipate further arrivals at The Valley in the coming weeks, signalling a continued push to reshape the squad ahead of the new season.
