Championship hopes rise as Jimmy Dunne sparks QPR revival

Jimmy Dunne’s brace on Saturday propelled Queens Park Rangers back into the Championship play‑off places, as the Irish captain helped his side to a 5‑0 victory over Swansea at Loftus Road. The win lifted QPR to eighth while the Swans slipped to second.

Why QPR needed a goal boost

The result came at a time when QPR were desperate for firepower, having slipped out of the play‑off places earlier in the campaign. Adding a prolific Irish international offered the club a clear solution to that scoring void. The victory moved QPR back into the play‑off positions in eighth.

Dunne’s brace seals dominant win

Richard Kone opened the scoring in spectacular fashion, netting a hat‑trick inside the first fifteen minutes. His early burst gave QPR a three‑goal lead before Dunne added his first of the day. By half‑time the visitors were already four ahead.

Dunne’s second strike arrived in first‑half stoppage time, when he rose to head home Harvey Vale’s corner. Later, in the 86th minute, he redirected Kone’s off‑target effort into the net for his second goal and QPR’s fifth.

Implications for the promotion race

Swansea, who had led the Championship until being overtaken by Middlesbrough on Friday night, suffered their second consecutive defeat. Despite a moment of danger when Adam Idah struck the bar, they could not recover.

Elsewhere in the division, Southampton announced their intent with a 3‑2 victory over pre‑season favourites West Ham at the London Stadium. Kuryu Matsuki, James Bree and Lewis Dobbin all found the net for the visitors, while Kyle Walker‑Peters and Tomas Soucek replied for the Hammers. The side, deducted four points at the start of the season, now sit just two points behind the Hammers.

In another Championship story, Adam Armstrong ended his goal drought with a milestone strike, securing a 1‑0 win for Wolves against Watford and moving the club into fourth place. His goal provided the decisive edge in a tightly contested match.

The Alamy Stock Photo round‑up also highlighted the broader sport coverage, mentioning Golf, Horse, Rugby and the Video Review Podcasts that accompany the Football Family’s extra content. IT WAS A memorable day for Jimmy Dunne as the QPR captain celebrated his brace. The performance will be remembered by the club’s supporters as a key moment in their promotion push.
