Champions League? No, Akanji wants all and the Coppa Italia with Inter
Swiss defender Manuel Akanji, born in 1995 and former Manchester City player, told Sport Mediaset that his sole objective with Inter is the Champions League and he is not satisfied with just winning the Serie A title and the Coppa Italia, aiming to win everything.
Statistics and individual ambitions
Akanji has made fifty appearances and scored two goals wearing the black-and-blue shirt. “It would be nice to win the Serie A best defender award, but that doesn’t depend on me,” he said, adding that the important thing always remains the team. The defender is also a starter for the Swiss national team.
The midfielder highlighted his ability to play both in a three-man defence and a four-man defence. “I believe I am capable of playing in both systems. Maybe I have played more with the four-man defence, the system we also use in the national team, and perhaps I am more accustomed to it,” he explained.
Adaptation and team mentality
When he arrived at Inter, he initially found adapting to the three-man defence difficult, but he clarified that “there is no problem.” “I train every day in the various sessions, so zero problems for me,” he added.

Regarding the recent conceding of two goals, he commented: “It was difficult against Roma, they played well. Against Real Madrid we made mistakes, but against Udinese and especially Napoli we played a great first half and then we were two goals down due to errors. The good thing is that we have a great mentality, we got back into the game and turned the result around.”
The defender expressed enthusiasm for Alessandro Stones’ return: “I think he has returned to training, I can’t wait to play with him again.” He also praised coach Raffaele Chivu, calling him “a great coach” who has done an excellent job despite the premature exit from the Champions League.
In summary, Akanji reiterates that Inter’s goal is “to play any competition to win” and that they will not settle for only the Serie A title and the Coppa Italia, but aim for the top European trophy and all the other available cups.
