Celtic’s American duo keep title defence on track in dominant win

Celtic’s title defence in the Scottish Premiership continued without a hitch as Auston Trusty and Cameron Carter‑Vickers started and completed the full 90 minutes each in a 5‑1 triumph over Kilmarnock at Rugby Park on Sunday, keeping the American partnership intact.

Defensive stats underline Trusty and Carter‑Vickers impact

Trusty recorded two duels won, five clearances and two blocks, while Carter‑Vickers contributed six clearances, three duels won and five defensive recoveries, highlighting the duo’s influence on the back line.

Future fixtures and squad rotation

Liam Scales remains out following a suspension from last season, meaning Trusty and Carter‑Vickers will retain their starting spots until the defender returns. Celtic now turn their focus to the Scottish League Cup, visiting Dundee United in the round of 16 on August 15, before facing Austrian champions LASK in a Champions League playoff starting August 19 in Glasgow.

Beyond Celtic, several other Americans made their mark over the weekend. Sebastian Berhalter supplied the sole assist in Middlesbrough’s 1‑0 EFL Cup win, while Max Arfsten debuted for the same side. Donovan Pines scored for Grazer AK, and Ricardo Pepi started for PSV in a 2‑2 Eredivisie draw with Fortuna Sittard.

Additional American appearances included George Bello completing 90 minutes for LASK, and Kevin Paredes featuring for FC Utrecht. In the German 2. Bundesliga, Johan Gomez came off the bench for Eintracht Braunschweig, and in the Austrian Bundesliga Sam Adineran notched an assist for LASK’s 2‑0 win over Austria Vienna.

Across the continent, the weekend also saw American players listed as OUT due to injury recovery, such as Alex Zendejas for Club America, and the “St.” abbreviation appearing in SKN St. Poelten’s match report. The end of the weekend therefore underscored the depth of American talent abroad.

Looking ahead, Trusty and Carter‑Vickers will be pivotal as Celtic chase multiple trophies, with their partnership expected to remain a cornerstone of the defence throughout the campaign.
