Carrick sharply replies to Bruno Fernandes' criticism

After Manchester United's 4‑1 defeat to Como on Wednesday in the Champions League, Bruno Fernandes criticised Michael Carrick's tactical choices, who replied curtly, reminding that without forward and backward runs, you don't win.

Bruno Fernandes' Criticisms

Bruno Fernandes blamed Michael Carrick for the lack of individual pressing, explaining that giving too many balls to the opposition teams allows them to gain confidence. He added that their players find themselves behind the ball, forcing them to run more. Finally, he highlighted that, when the ball is recovered, the legs and the brain struggle to function.

He also noted that the team had applied a higher press in the second period, which would have led to conceding the fourth goal.

Michael Carrick's Response

Michael Carrick retorted that, whatever the system or tactic, if the players do not run forward and backward, victory is impossible. He deemed the way the match was handled unacceptable. He reminded that you can win or lose, but the way you play matters.

Carrick said he will apologise to the supporters, sharing their anger and stressing the need to move on. He affirmed that his whole life revolves around Manchester United and that he gives everything he can. He nevertheless questions the players' commitment, hoping they invest as much as he does.

The club has recorded only two wins in eleven matches across all competitions this season, highlighting the current difficulty of the Red Devils.

After the rout, the atmosphere in the dressing room deteriorated, the house burning according to Carrick's remarks, and the sacred union of the Red Devils now appears broken.

Manchester United will try to get back on track on Sunday against Bournemouth at 3 p.m., in the next Premier League match.
