Carrick’s injury update leaves United’s attack in doubt

Manchester United face fresh attacking doubt after Marcus Rashford was forced off in the 2‑2 Premier League draw with Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Sunday, with Michael Carrick confirming the substitution stemmed from a physical issue rather than a tactical tweak.

Match events and substitution

United had taken the lead through Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko before Everton equalised in stoppage time via Ainsley Maitland‑Niles. Rashford lasted 70 minutes before being replaced by Patrick Dorgu at the 70th minute.

Speaking after the match, Carrick was asked directly whether the change was injury‑related. He replied: “Yeah, he was feeling a bit of something.” He later added, “Just had an issue, so nothing major.”

United have yet to confirm the exact nature or severity of the problem, and the player will be assessed by the club’s medical staff before a decision is made on his availability for the next fixtures.

The timing is inconvenient as United begin their Champions League campaign against Sabah on Thursday and host Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday, 13 September.

The 28‑year‑old Rashford earns £325,000 a week and has just under two years left on his contract, having signed an extension through to the end of next season in the summer of 2023.

Further updates will be provided as United monitor the situation. More information is expected from CaughtOffside in the coming days.
