Season woes and criticism
United have endured a difficult opening campaign, sitting in 12th place and trailing leaders Manchester City by ten points. A last‑minute, deflected strike from Matheus Cunha secured a draw, yet the result attracted further rebuke from Sky pundit Neville.
Neville, speaking on Sky, said: “I’ve watched Man United since the age of five. That’s the worst 15 minutes I’ve seen them play. Absolutely pathetic.” His comments came as United headed into the international break.

Carrick’s defence and outlook
Carrick responded that the squad remains optimistic, stating, “There’s still a big season ahead. It’s a long season and this is part of the journey.” He acknowledged the frustration of being ten points behind Manchester City but stressed the need for more points.
When asked whether United were “too passive” at Craven Cottage, Carrick replied, “I didn’t think we were. Football is a difficult game. We controlled a lot of the first half. In the Premier League you will have spells where you don’t have it all your own way.” He added that the team could learn from the performance and that “there were some good signs today.”
