Carragher accuses Liverpool of wrongful dismissal of Slot

Jamie Carragher recorded a two‑minute column for the Dutch manager Arne Slot, in which he states that Liverpool's dismissal of Slot was unjust and that he was used as a convenient scapegoat after the club replaced him with Andoni Iraola.

Column in The Telegraph

In his column for The Telegraph Carragher writes that Iraola has not yet been able to solve the problems that Slot also had. He quotes: “Just like Slot last season, Iraola is given the task of forging expensive players into a good team. It is worrying that he may still need a few transfer windows to attract the right players for his style of play, an incredible observation given the already invested sums.”

Dismissal and discontent among supporters

The Dutchman Arne Slot was dismissed by Liverpool after the previous season and replaced by Andoni Iraola. Carragher argues that Liverpool's problems were not due to Slot, but to a lack of maximal commitment from talented players. During the goalless match against Fulham last weekend, the first signs of discontent among the Liverpool supporters confirmed his earlier suspicion.

He compares the situation to Jürgen Klopp in 2015, who won the Champions League four years later, and warns that Slot was dismissed too quickly. “My first reaction after Slot's dismissal was that his work would be reassessed over time,” says Carragher, “and that he should not remain the only guilty party.” He expects that this reassessment will come sooner than anticipated, unless a radical turnaround occurs.
