Candidates So: Bayern plans time after Manuel Neuer and 11 goalkeepers

FC Bayern Munich appears to be preparing for a possible end of Manuel Neuer’s career. The 40‑year‑old first‑choice goalkeeper has not yet made a final decision, his contract is expiring, and already a list with at least eleven goalkeepers is on the table.

Jonas Urbig as a possible number one

According to information from Sky Sport, the role of the 23‑year‑old Jonas Urbig is said to be clarified. Munich do not plan to present him with another young keeper as a direct competitor. Should Neuer actually leave, Urbig could rise to the new number one.

Experienced backup behind Urbig

For the position behind Urbig, Bayern are looking for an experienced goalkeeper with leadership qualities. He should support Urbig with his experience and act as a reliable second choice.

Among the candidates mentioned in Germany are Oliver Baumann from TSG Hoffenheim, Bernd Leno from FC Fulham and Marvin Schwäbe from 1. FC Köln. Also Finn Dahmen from Augsburg and Frederik Rönnow from Union Berlin are named as options.

Internationally, further experienced keepers are being considered: Koen Casteels (Al‑Qadsiah), Kevin Trapp (Paris FC), Lukas Hradecky (AS Monaco), Juan Musso (Atletico Madrid), Rui Silva (Sporting) and Nick Pope from Newcastle United. All names appear, according to the Sky report, in Bayern’s considerations.

So far the record champions have not made contact with the named candidates. A final decision strongly depends on how Manuel plans his own future.

Jonas Urbig is also closely watching the development. The former Cologne player regularly gets playing opportunities, celebrated his debut for the German national team and remained without conceding a goal in the matches against Serbia (2:0) and Greece (0:0).
