Canal+ launches free Sport+ with multiplex Ligue and Formula 1 Grand Prix
This Friday, October 9, Canal+ launches Sport+, a 100 % free sports platform, while the Singapore Grand Prix in Formula 1 marks the first live broadcast event. On one hand, the free service attracts the group's eight million monthly internet users; on the other hand, the multiplex promises delayed highlights and multiple streams of the Champions League, Europa League and Premier League.
A marketing showcase to convert viewers
Canal+ describes Sport+ as a showcase intended to attract potential new subscribers. Thomas Sénécal, sports director, explains that the Multi‑live mode will display a “thumbnail wall”, retaining the multiplex sound without switching to full screen. Christophe Pinard‑Legry, general manager of Canal+ Europe, estimates that eight million people access the group's content each month via the website or the app.
Beyond the Singapore GP, the platform will announce other major events: the Top 14, MotoGP, the Rennes‑Crete match in the Europa League on Thursday, October 15, and the Lyon‑Marseille duel in the Arkema Premier League on Saturday, October 24.
Canal+ makes the Europa League free via SPORT+
These full broadcasts, combined with extensive data and statistics, aim to showcase Canal+’s expertise in sports and to encourage free viewers to subscribe.
