Cambuur condemns fireworks chaos as five injured in Feyenoord clash

SC Cambuur released an official statement after the Eredivisie match against Feyenoord was disrupted by a large fireworks display, confirming that five spectators suffered injuries, including burns, hearing loss and eye damage. The incident occurred in the twelfth minute and led to a ten‑minute stoppage.

The fireworks originated from the section occupied by Rotterdam supporters, who ignited a massive quantity of pyrotechnics. Cambuur noted that the devices were not only set off but also launched toward the pitch and surrounding stands, turning what should have been a festive atmosphere into a hazardous situation.

Injuries and match interruption

The Frisian club reported that the five injured individuals primarily suffered burns, auditory trauma and eye injuries. Medical staff attended to the victims on the sidelines while officials worked to clear the debris and restore safety.

Play resumed after the ten‑minute halt, and Feyenoord emerged strongly from the dressing room, scoring four goals before the halftime break and ultimately securing a 5‑2 victory.

In its statement, Cambuur condemned the act, describing the setting off and firing of fireworks as “completely unacceptable” and emphasizing that such behaviour has no place in a football stadium. The club pledged to cooperate with authorities to identify and punish those responsible.

Authorities have been alerted and are expected to launch an investigation into the incident, with Cambuur promising full cooperation to ensure accountability and prevent a recurrence.
