Cambiaso returns, Juve target title as Roma‑Inter clash looms

Juventus full‑back Alessandro Cambiaso is set to rejoin the squad as the fifth round of Serie A kicks off today, highlighted by the blockbuster Roma‑Inter showdown at the Olimpico. After this matchday, a single club could sit alone at the top of the table.

Juve coach Luciano Spalletti has been eager to see Cambiaso back after the full‑back suffered an ankle injury against Parma. With the Europa League put on hold for a month, Juve can focus fully on the league again. The player will undergo another medical test within the next 48 hours, and a part‑time role remains on the table.

Spalletti also expects goalkeeper Mattia Vicario to return and central defender Gleison Bremer to feature in the defence. Mid‑week suspensions see Kelly back in the squad and Zhegrova reinstated after his UEFA list omission, while Locatelli, Thuram, Yildiz, Boga, Ekhator and Cabal continue their longer recoveries.

Round five kicks off with Roma‑Inter clash

The fifth round of Serie A begins today, with the headline fixture a clash between Roma and Inter at the Olimpico. Both sides arrive after mixed results, and a win could leave one club alone atop the Serie BKT table. After this matchday, the league leader could be decided.

Inter line‑up tweaks ahead of the Olimpico test

Inter coach Cristian Chivu is planning several adjustments for the visit to the Olimpico. Lautaro Martínez, rested on Monday, returns alongside Thiago Thuram, while defender John Stones is sidelined by a hamstring injury for roughly three weeks and Hakan Calhanoglu remains unavailable. Defender Bisseck is fit after a Germany call‑up, Zielinski is set to drop deeper to make room for Curtis Jones, and on the right flank Luis Henrique may start if Diouf lacks physical sharpness. In goal, Chivu prefers Josep Martinez but will turn to Provedel should the Spaniard show limited composure.

Napoli’s brief Mastantuono inquiry

Sporting director Giovanni Manna of Napoli contacted the agents of Argentine forward Franco Mastantuono after the player’s move to Real Madrid. The club’s interest never progressed beyond the initial enquiry because the financial terms did not fit Napoli’s transfer‑budget limits and Real Madrid would only consider a dry loan. Mastantuono, who moved to Spain in the summer of 2025 for €45 million before joining Fiorentina, remains out of Napoli’s immediate plans.

Roma bolster defence as Hermoso returns

Mario Hermoso has recovered from an ankle bruise and is back training with Roma, pushing for a place in the back line. The competition between Ndicka and Balerdi remains tight, with the Ivorian holding a slight edge while the Argentine’s rapid recovery could tip the balance. On the right, Lulli and Molina vie for the role to contain Dimarco’s forward runs, and further up the pitch Gasperini weighs Soulé against Pisilli for an attacking midfield slot that would give Roma three midfielders in the defensive phase.
