Camavinga shows versatility and talks about rivalry with Belgium
Eduardo Camavinga was yesterday at the King Baudouin Stadium for the press conference of the Nations League match between Belgium and France. The 23‑year‑old Real Madrid midfielder received the first questions from both Belgian and French journalists, also discussing the absence of teammate Thibaut Courtois.
The gathering was attended by the press from both countries; the Belgian press was particularly eager. The Belgian and French reporters alternately asked the first questions. Camavinga emphasized that the rivalry between the two nations still lives on, despite the friendly tone of the press.

Camavinga’s versatility at Real Madrid
At Real Madrid Camavinga is used in various positions: as left‑back, defensive midfielder and more attacking midfielder. “I’m lucky that I can play both as a number six and a number eight,” he laughed, “I think I can showcase my qualities in both positions, but you know my preference.”
The club values his adaptability, which sees him regularly switch between defensive and offensive duties. This makes him a valuable link in the squad.
Rivalry and role with France
For France Camavinga is not yet a regular starter. “What I lack is consistency. I have already played good matches in the past, but that is what is still missing,” he explained, adding that concentration and as few mistakes as possible will give him more playing opportunities.
Didier Deschamps left him out of the squad for the 2026 World Cup, a decision that hit Camavinga hard. “Not being allowed to go to the World Cup affected me. Every footballer dreams of that,” he said, describing the disappointment as a new, but instructive, chapter.
Thibaut Courtois, the Belgian goalkeeper and also teammate at Real Madrid, will not face Camavinga in this international. “We talked about it with him and to answer your question: I’m very happy he isn’t there,” Camavinga joked. Therefore he will not be opposite his clubmate in this international.
The French press also asked about the historic rivalry between Belgium and France. Camavinga laughed: “It’s a very important match, because Belgium is a great football nation. What happened in the past? I think especially you, the Belgians, still have something to say about it.”
