Caldentey’s experience fuels Arsenal’s ambitious Treble drive

Since joining Arsenal in the summer of 2024, 30‑year‑old Spaniard Mariona Caldentey has become a cornerstone of the Gunners, matching Alessia Russo with 43 Women's Super League and Champions League appearances as the club intensifies its pursuit of a historic Treble.

The club’s objectives this season are clear – a first Women's Super League title since 2019, two domestic Cups and another Champions League, the classic Treble pursuit that Slegers repeatedly stresses. "We have to do it – now it has to be our time," Caldentey said.

Caldentey added that handling pressure is "a cool part of the job" and that professional athletes at a big club must accept it. "We are professional athletes at a big club and we have to deal with pressure. We accept it and I think it’s a cool part of the job," she explained.

Boss Renee Slegers is equally bullish, telling the Women’s Football Weekly podcast that Arsenal's targets are bold and explicit – we want to win the Women's Super League, and, of course, the Treble.

This summer Slegers reinforced the squad with seven newcomers, among them full‑back Ona Batlle, fellow Spaniard Georgia Stanway and England dynamo, adding depth ahead of a demanding schedule.

Caldentey notes that she and Alessia Russo have the joint‑most Women's Super League and Champions League games for Arsenal, 43 each, and that Russo remains the only player with more goals and assists, underscoring the balanced attack.
