Cagliari Trepy moves from intensive care to pulmonology

Cagliari Trepy, the forward Yael Trepy, left the intensive care unit of the Santissima Annunziata hospital in Sassari yesterday afternoon and was transferred to the clinical and interventional pulmonology ward on Viale San Pietro, marking a clear step forward in his recovery for the continued monitoring of his respiratory condition.

From ICU to pulmonology

The 22‑year‑old forward was admitted on Sunday after a near‑drowning incident in a swimming pool, prompting an emergency admission to the Terapia Intensiva Emergenza Urgenza of the Santissima Annunziata hospital in Sassari. Doctors diagnosed a principle of annegamento, requiring immediate respiratory support. He remained under intensive observation throughout the weekend.

Yesterday afternoon, the Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria confirmed that Trepy’s condition had improved sufficiently to allow his transfer from the intensive unit to the Pneumologia clinica e interventistica on Viale San Pietro. The move was made possible because he no longer required intensive assistance.

Stefania Milia, director of the Terapia Intensiva Emergenza Urgenza, said, “Il paziente ha mantenuto condizioni cliniche stabili, senza necessità di ulteriore assistenza intensiva.” She added that the patient began mobilisation with a physiotherapist earlier in the day.

Before leaving the unit, Trepy presented a gesture of gratitude, donating Cagliari Calcio shirts bearing his name to the staff who cared for him. The personalized shirts were well received by the healthcare team.

The young striker will now continue his treatment under professor Pietro Pirina in the pulmonology department, where respiratory function will be closely monitored. The department will also oversee the completion of his clinical recovery.

Medical staff indicated that his respiratory picture remains stable, allowing a focus on rehabilitation rather than critical care. Continued physiotherapy sessions are scheduled to aid his return to full fitness.

The shift from intensive care to a specialised pulmonology ward underscores the rapid improvement in Trepy’s health and suggests he is on a clear path toward regaining match readiness. Fans can look forward to his eventual return to Cagliari’s squad.
