Cagliari’s Yael Trepy placed in intensive care after pool incident

On a quiet morning at the Santissima Annunziata Hospital in Sassari, 20‑year‑old Cagliari striker Yael Trepy lay in intensive care after a near‑drowning in a swimming pool at Porto Cervo, prompting the club to request privacy for the young French forward.

Hospitalisation in Sassari

Cagliari Calcio released an official statement on Monday, saying: “Cagliari Calcio announce that the player Yael Trepy is currently hospitalised in the intensive care unit at the Santissima Annunziata Hospital in Sassari,” the Rossoblu added.

The club said it remains in constant contact with the medical facility and Trepy’s family, closely monitoring his condition, and asked for the utmost respect for their privacy while updates are pending.

Italian sources, including , reported that Trepy nearly drowned in a swimming pool in Porto Cervo and was air‑lifted to the hospital by helicopter.

Cagliari players had been granted two days off after Friday’s Coppa Italia match against Arezzo, where Trepy started and played 54 minutes, and were due back to training ahead of the Serie A opener against Parma next weekend.

The French striker joined Cagliari’s youth sector from US Créteil in 2023, made his Serie A debut last season with one goal in eight appearances, and his contract runs until June 2030.

A photo taken on February 21, 2026 shows Yael Trepy inspecting the pitch before a Serie A clash between Cagliari Calcio and SS Lazio at Stadio Sant’Elia.
