Cagliari's director general warns of extortion as Esposito hits market
Cagliari's director general Stefano Melis, also referred to as Melli, announced that forward Sebastiano Esposito is now on the market and the club will only consider offers that match his technical value and a salary close to double his current earnings.

Melis noted that Esposito signed a contract extending to 2030 last year and that the club had recently formalised a significant salary adjustment, making him one of the highest‑paid players in the squad. He described the situation as resembling an extortion attempt, blaming the player's agent for poor advice.
According to Melis, the forward left the training camp overnight, showing disrespect to the group, the coach, staff and supporters. A medical certificate with an embarrassing content was later submitted, confirming the player's market status.
Cagliari will evaluate any offers that are congruent with Esposito's technical level and align with his demand for a wage near double his present pay.
