Cagliari forward Yael Trepy awakens from induced coma

El Cagliari forward Yael Trepy, the 20‑year‑old French striker, woke on Tuesday from an induced coma in the UCI of Hospital Civil Santissima Annunziata in Sassari, after a near‑drowning incident in a pool at Porto Cervo, Sardinia (Cerdeña), Italia, and showed no neurological deficits.

Hospital report details

According to Spada/LaPresse via AP)Spada/LaPresseMUNDO, the hospital bulletin released by Cagliari stated that sedation was progressively reduced throughout the day and ventilatory support was weaned until the player could be extubated.

After extubation, Trepy remained fully conscious and receptive, with no evident neurological deficits and stable respiratory conditions, but doctors decided to keep him in the UCI for close clinical and respiratory monitoring.

Accident and rescue

While on vacation in Porto Cervo, the northern part of Sardinia, Trepy fell into the deepest section of a pool and could not stay afloat; emergency services rescued him on site and performed immediate intubation.

A chest CT scan revealed a significant accumulation of fluid in his lungs, prompting physicians to maintain an induced coma until the afternoon of Tuesday.

The club celebrated the progress with a supportive message: "Eres fuerte, Yael. Te esperamos pronto."

El jugador del Cagliari, born in 2006 in Villeneuve‑Saint‑Georges, Île‑de‑France, France, began his football journey with his local side before moving to Créteil‑Lusitanos, where he stayed until the end of 2022.

He joined Cagliari in January 2023, developing in the youth ranks, notably the under‑18 team where he scored 14 goals in his first full season on the island.

In January 2026 he was promoted to the first team, debuting against Cremonese and finding the net four minutes after coming on, helping secure a 2‑2 draw with a decisive goal in the 88th minute.
