BVB Trainer Kovac's Ansage to Joker Fabio Silva sets striker hierarchy

Borussia Dortmund’s BVB Trainer Kovac issued a firm Ansage to Joker Fabio Silva, reiterating that Serhou Guirassy remains the club’s Stürmer Nummer eins. Kovac’s comment came after Silva’s market value fell by €6 million at the end of May, leaving his Joker role unchanged for the new season.

Kovac‑Ansage left no doubt about the hierarchy. "Er kennt seine Rolle in der Mannschaft. Serhou Guirassy ist unser Stürmer Nummer eins. Er ist der Herausforderer," the coach said about Silva.

Market value and contract

Silva’s market value now stands at €22.00 million after the €6 million drop, and his contract runs until 2030. He arrived from Wolverhampton for €22.5 million roughly a year ago.

Season performance and striker hierarchy

In his first season the 24‑year‑old featured in 40 Pflichtspiele, scoring four Tore, with only seven starts in the Bundesliga and 21 Spiele as a substitute. He expressed dissatisfaction after the 1:2 Supercup loss to Bayern Munich, where he scored the Dortmund goal, saying, "Ich fühle mich gut. Ich möchte natürlich mehr Spiele von Beginn an machen und der Mannschaft helfen."

Guirassy recorded 33 Bundesliga games, 17 goals and two assists in the 2025/26 season, and his contract runs to 2028. After a rumored move to Fenerbahçe fell through, he now heads into the new season as the undisputed Stürmer Nummer eins.

Rumours persist of interest from clubs in Turkey and Spain, but Silva has kept his future at BVB open despite the Joker‑Rolle debate.
