BVB seeks a replacement for Konstantelias – Regula remains in the sights
The transfer of Polish forward Marcel Regula remains at the centre of Borussia Dortmund's discussions, as the team urgently seeks a replacement for the long‑absent Giannis Konstantelias. According to the club, the next BVB signing is expected to be completed in the coming months.
Search for a replacement for Konstantelias
On deadline day, the BVB officials looked for a replacement for Giannis Konstantelias. Already the day before, two candidates emerged: the Polish talent Marcel Regula from Zaglebie Lubin and Ethan Nwaneri from FC Arsenal. Both are regarded as top talents, but the decision initially went for the Nwaneri loan.
Regula in focus despite Nwaneri loan
Despite the decision to take Nwaneri on loan, Ricken and Book continue to pursue Regula. The BVB officials are examining the possibility of signing the forward after the loan expires, and see him as a potential replacement for Konstantelias.
Pawel Jez, club president of Zaglebie Lubin, confirmed after the Nwaneri loan that his club is firmly counting on the transfer. “Borussia Dortmund is planning for the future with Marcel Regula. We will see whether it will be ready in the winter or only next summer,” said Jez. The club of the Polish top talent assumes that the move will be completed in the coming months.
A possible transfer fee of around €7.5 million was mentioned for the summer. Regula’s contract in Lubin runs until 2028, giving the club a stronger bargaining position in negotiations over a departure.
Last Tuesday, a plane was already ready to fly to the Ruhr region, but it never took off. The BVB officials are now assessing whether a transfer can be realised in the upcoming winter or only in the summer of 2027.
The portal “Fussballtransfers.com” links the timing of the transfer to the Nwaneri loan, as Arsenal could recall the youngster early in the winter. Should Arsenal use this option, Regula would be the most obvious alternative.
After the transfer fell through last week due to a lack of budget, sporting director Ole Book and his team expect sufficient funds in January to finalise the deal.
