BVB ask Greece to rest Karetsas ahead of Germany clash

Borussia Dortmund are alarmed by the heavy workload placed on 18‑year‑old Konstantinos Karetsas, while the Greek national team continue to rely on him as a starter in the Nations League clash against Germany (Deutschland). The German club have even asked the Greek federation to limit his minutes.

Nach reports from Sky, the Dortmunder officials contacted the Greek football federation. They conveyed a concern over the youngster’s workload.

The BVB asked that Konstantinos Karetsas’ playing time be sharply reduced in the upcoming Nations League duel with Germany. In extreme, they suggested a complete rest for the 18‑year‑old.

Heavy minutes in recent internationals

In Greece’s last three matches, Karetsas started each time, amassing 247 minutes within a single week. He remained on the pitch for the full 90 minutes in the 1‑0 defeat to Germany.

During Borussia Dortmund’s Champions League win over Villarreal (3‑2), Karetsas suffered circulatory problems and was withdrawn in the first half. The episode prompted the club to monitor his physical condition closely.

Since that incident, Dortmund have deliberately limited his minutes in training and matches. The club’s medical staff aim to avoid a repeat of the earlier health issue.

The Bundesliga schedule adds pressure: only five days after the Germany fixture, Dortmund host Werder Bremen. The club hopes Karetsas will be fully fit for that home game.

Ultimately, the exact minutes he will receive against Germany lie with the Greek coaching staff. Greek media still predict he will start, despite Dortmund’s plea.
