But OM under Genesio faces Olympiakos with two key absences

Before hosting Olympiakos in the Europa League this Thursday at 9 p.m., Olympique de Marseille under Bruno Genesio faces two major absences in the Greek eleven, while the Phocaeans themselves will have to do without two key players. After the 0‑2 win over Troyes last Sunday, the Marseille side are looking to claim their first three points in Europe.

Absences on the OM side

On the OM side, Bruno Genesio announced the unavailability of Derek Cornelius and Pierre‑Emile Højbjerg. The Canadian centre‑back is seriously injured in the hip, and the Danish midfielder suffers a muscle injury. These two absences limit the coach’s options both in defence and midfield ahead of the European match.

Absences for Olympiakos

On the other side, Olympiakos coach Imanol Alguacil will also have to field a side without Yusuf Yazıcı and Ayoub El Kaabi. Yazıcı is recovering from a torn knee cruciate ligament, while El Kaabi is unavailable due to a zygomatic bone fracture. These two absences could weaken the Greek attack before the trip to the Velodrome.

Heavily beaten 4‑1 by Besiktas in the first matchday of the league phase, the Marseille side hope to bounce back and secure their first points in the Europa League. Thursday’s match therefore represents a second crucial European appointment for the season.

Both coaches will have to adjust their tactics taking these losses into account. The stakes are all the more important as the result could shape the remainder of the competition for both clubs.
