Burnley’s strategic boost: signing defender Jessica Hennessy

Burnley have completed the signing of AFC Bournemouth defender Jessica Hennessy on a one‑year deal, announced by the Clarettes on their official club website this afternoon. The 24‑year‑old defender will join the squad at Turf Moor for the upcoming season.

She began her senior career in her native Republic of Ireland with SSE Airtricity League Women’s Premier Division side Athlone Town. Hennessy later moved to Shamrock Rovers, gaining further experience in the Irish women’s league.

In 2024 she signed for Nottingham Forest, contributing to the FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division title‑winning campaign. Last summer she transferred to AFC Bournemouth, where she added the FA Women’s National League Cup to her honours.

Burnley’s recruitment aims to strengthen the defensive line as the club prepares for competition in the English second tier. The club sees Hennessy’s experience in title‑winning sides as a valuable asset for its ambitions.
