Burnley's promotion push hinges on Ahmedhodzic's four‑year signing

Officieel, Anel Ahmedhodzic has left Feyenoord after just one season, signing a four‑year contract with Burnley, the Championship side seeking to rebuild their defence. The Bosniër, who made 36 appearances for the Rotterdam club, will now aim to help the newly‑relegated English team chase promotion.

Burnley’s defensive gap

Burnley entered the Championship after relegation and need experienced centre‑backs to solidify a back line that struggled last campaign. Ahmedhodzic arrives with proven Championship pedigree from his time at Sheffield United, offering the physicality and league know‑how the club hopes will tighten its defence.

Four‑year deal and fee

The defender agreed to a four‑year contract with Burnley, and the English side will pay something more than seven million euros to Rotterdam. ‘Ik ben blij om hier te zijn’, says Ahmedhodzic on the website of his new club, expressing enthusiasm for the move.

His familiarity with the stadium and atmosphere should ease his transition.

Feyenoord exit and injury history

Ahmedhodzic arrived at Feyenoord last summer for a reported seven‑million‑euro fee from Sheffield United and quickly became a starter under Robin van Persie. However, injuries curtailed his progress, and after the Klassieker on 22 March he did not feature again, leaving his Feyenoord tally at 36 matches.

New manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst preferred alternatives such as Tsuyoshi Watanabe, Jeremiah St. Juste and Thijs Kraaijeveld, limiting Ahmedhodzic’s chances in the heart of the defence.

Next steps and obstacles

At Burnley, Ahmedhodzic will compete for a starting spot alongside existing defenders, while hoping his Championship experience can drive the club’s promotion hunt. Persistent injury concerns and the need to adapt to a new defensive hierarchy remain challenges he must overcome.
