Burnley eye Ahmedhodzic to shore up Championship defence
Burnley are set to reinforce their Championship defence by signing Bosnian centre‑back Anel Ahmedhodzic, who will leave Feyenoord’s De Kuip after just one season. The 27‑year‑old defender’s move comes as the English club prepares to add a regular starter to its back line.

Burnley’s defensive need
Burnley, competing in the Championship, have identified a centre‑back vacancy as they aim to solidify their back line. The club plans to acquire Ahmedhodzic for a fee comparable to the €7 million Feyenoord paid Sheffield United a year earlier. Potential bonuses and a future sell‑on clause could raise the total amount further.
Ahmedhodzic’s Feyenoord chapter
Feyenoord signed the Bosnische defender last summer from Sheffield United for a reported €7 million. He quickly became a fixture in the heart of the defence alongside Tsuyoshi Watanabe. The club’s brief marriage with Ahmedhodzic was always intended to last only one season.
Na de Klassieker tegen Ajax op 22 maart missed the remainder of the campaign through injury. That match is believed to have been his last official appearance for the Rotterdam side.
Under new manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Ahmedhodzic saw reduced minutes as the coach favoured Watanabe, Jeremiah St. Juste and Thijs Kraaijeveld in central defence. Met Thomas Beelen, Mika Marmól and Neraysho Kasanwirjo, Van Bronckhorst also retained three further defensive options.
The transfer is now in its concluding phase, with Burnley set to complete the signing. The English side will pay a sum similar to Feyenoord’s original outlay, subject to bonuses that could increase the figure.
