Buonanotte’s latest loan spells out Brighton’s midfield reshuffle

Brighton have sent midfielder Facundo Buonanotte to Spanish club Elche on a season-long loan, continuing the Argentine’s pattern of temporary moves since his arrival in England. The 21-year-old will make his fourth loan spell away from Brighton this term, following spells at Leicester, Chelsea, and Leeds across the past two seasons.

Buonanotte joined Brighton from Rosario Central in January 2023 and has since been used primarily as a rotational option in midfield. His latest move to Elche comes after he featured regularly for Leicester during the 2024-25 campaign but struggled to secure consistent minutes at both Chelsea and Leeds.

Brighton sporting director Mike Cave framed the loan as an opportunity for Buonanotte to regain regular playing time in a competitive league. “Facundo is a talented young player who has continued to develop since joining the club,” Cave said. “This loan gives him the opportunity to play regular football in one of Europe’s top leagues.”

Elche finished 15th in La Liga last season, placing them in the lower half of Spain’s top flight but clear of relegation concerns. The club’s mid-table status provides Buonanotte with a platform to rebuild his rhythm under competitive pressure.

Cave also emphasised Brighton’s ongoing monitoring of Buonanotte’s progress, signalling that his future at the club remains under review. “We believe this move will provide an excellent environment for him to gain further experience, and we’ll continue to monitor his progress closely throughout the season,” he added.

Buonanotte has earned three senior caps for Argentina, making his debut in 2023 against Indonesia and featuring again in 2024 against El Salvador. He was not included in the squad for the most recent World Cup cycle.

The loan deal marks another chapter in Buonanotte’s development as a player accustomed to temporary stints rather than sustained spells at a single club. His arrival in Spain follows a pattern of short-term placements aimed at accumulating minutes in top-level football.
