Series of defeats prompts dismissal
Polanski and his assistant Tobias Trulsen both left the club after the 5‑0 loss to Freiburg, the third straight defeat for Gladbach in the opening Bundesliga rounds, deepening woes in the Campeonato Alemão. MUNDO reported the club’s statement on the decision, noting that Além Polanski, assistant Tobias Trulsen also departed.
The negative run began with a 3‑0 loss at RB Leipzig. In the next round Gladbach hosted newly promoted Elversberg and fell 4‑3.
Despite the league woes, Gladbach recorded a 5‑0 victory over Schott Mainz in the German Cup, the opponent hailing from the fifth tier of German football. The win offered a brief respite from the poor league form.
Polanski had first taken charge last season after Gerardo Seoane was dismissed following just one point from three Bundesliga matches. Initially appointed interim, he earned a permanent role in November and guided the team to a 12th‑place finish, securing survival.
Jan‑Moritz Lichte, already a member of the coaching staff, was named interim head coach. Lichte previously managed Mainz in the Bundesliga, bringing further German‑league experience to the role.
