Bruno Fernandes' house is ransacked during United's defeat in Como
Manchester United suffered a 4-1 defeat to Como in the Champions League yesterday, while club captain Bruno Fernandes (32) was confronted with a burglary at home in Cheshire. The Portuguese midfielder's luxury villa was ransacked around 8:30 pm, while he was on the pitch.
United were already down within two minutes after Como star Nico Paz scored the first of his two goals. The team conceded a goal just fifty seconds later following an earlier concession against Atletico, which turned the mood negative early on. Fernandes then criticised manager Michael Carrick's tactics, which he said were too passive. Man United had hoped for a better result.
Burglary and police investigation
Police received a report around 8:30 pm of three unknown men in the garden of an adjacent property in Alderley Park. Officers arrived within ten minutes and found that the six‑bedroom villa, valued at just under five million euros, had been rummaged through. The theft focused mainly on designer jewellery and other expensive items.
At the time of the burglary, the wife Ana Pinho and their two young children were not at home, which an anonymous source said made the damage “immense”. It is unclear whether the family was inside the house when the perpetrators entered.

Cheshire Police are now reviewing CCTV footage from surrounding houses to locate the three suspects. A source at The Sun said: “Bruno and Ana are completely devastated by it.” The police have not yet found any leads regarding the exact number of stolen items.
Reactions and criticism of United
The incident is seen as a growing problem in England, where top footballers are often attacked while they are on the pitch; Jan Vertonghen experienced a similar assault when he was playing for Tottenham. It also happened to “The Red Devil” Senne Lammens, who had to turn around four times in Como.
After the defeat, Fernandes faced criticism for his comments about manager Michael Carrick and the staff policy. He said: “Sometimes you have to be bolder when you’re under pressure,” and argued that a lack of pressing made the team vulnerable. The Portuguese captain emphasised that the early goal from Nico Paz, who scored twice, negatively affected United’s mood.

Fernandes remains under contract until the next season, with an option until 2028, meaning United must deal with his situation both on and off the pitch. The club now has to address both the sporting and personal setbacks of their captain.
