Bruggink slams winless Eredivisie clubs as promoted sides lag behind
Arnold Bruggink, speaking for , criticised Eredivisie clubs after the second round, noting that five teams remain without a point and that all three promoted sides – ADO Den Haag, SC Cambuur and Willem II – have yet to earn a single point.
Promoted clubs still winless
After two matches, five Eredivisie clubs have failed to pick up any points. In addition to the promoted trio, PEC Zwolle and FC Utrecht also sit on zero points.
Bruggink remarked, “Welcome to the world of dependence on the transfer market,” emphasizing how early encounters with promoted and low‑flying teams expose their unreadiness.
Broader criticism of the league
He added, “I saw ADO defend against FC Groningen and then thought: boys, be serious… That I find an extreme,” highlighting what he sees as naïve defensive displays.
Addressing financial instability, Bruggink said, “You can remove a lot of unrest by telling that you financially just have to make the place, because that is, in my opinion, what must happen. It can also just not be. Give it time.”
Regarding recent fixtures, he noted, “FC Groningen‑out is a difficult match, AZ‑home also… It is also no shame.” He praised AZ’s structure and its trainer Lee‑roy Echteld, who knows the young players well, but warned that calling the club a title candidate would be premature.
