Bruggink flags Groningen striker as PSV’s ideal second‑striker backup

Arnold Bruggink believes Thom van Bergen would make a good second striker for PSV as the Eindhoven club continues to look for a replacement behind Ricardo Pepi after Alassane Pléa’s injury.

Bruggink described Van Bergen as “a motor that keeps running and turning”. He highlighted the FC Groningen‑spits’ relentless energy as a key attribute.

Referring to the recent clash with ADO Den Haag, Bruggink noted that Van Bergen created four chances despite scoring little. He said the match showed the striker’s ability to generate opportunities.

According to Bruggink, the style of play at Groningen suits Van Bergen perfectly, matching the qualities the Dutch forward possesses.

Bruggink added that PSV is looking “in the backyard, just in the Eredivisie”, emphasizing that the club is still hunting for a genuine second striker. He suggested that the Eredivisie should be pleased with PSV’s domestic focus.

The analyst also pointed out that Van Bergen is a Jong Oranje player who is still developing. He praised the striker’s movement in space, his pressing, and his constant presence in the penalty area, arguing that more chances will lead to more goals.

Bruggink concluded that Van Bergen could be the player PSV examines to fill the void left by Pléa, noting that the forward has the necessary characteristics to succeed at the club.
