Bromley bolster defence with Bolton’s Richard Taylor on loan

Bromley, fresh entrants to League One, have addressed a defensive shortfall by securing a season‑long loan for Bolton Wanderers centre‑back Richard Taylor. The 25‑year‑old defender joins the club on a temporary basis for the 2024‑25 campaign, bringing experience from a recent promotion push and a Scottish background.

The loan comes after Bromley lost a regular centre‑back, leaving a gap in the back line that the club needed to fill quickly. Taylor’s Scottish background and experience in a promotion campaign were seen as ideal attributes to reinforce the defence.

Taylor was a member of the Bolton squad that earned promotion from the third tier via the play‑offs last season. His involvement in that successful push is expected to add a winning mentality to Bromley’s defensive unit.

He started his football education in Southend’s youth system before moving to Dagenham & Redbridge in 2021. Those formative years helped shape the defensive capabilities he now brings to Bromley.

Taylor arrived at Bolton from the Scottish club St Mirren last summer. He recorded 14 appearances across all competitions for the Wanderers during the 2025‑26 campaign.

He will report to Bromley ahead of pre‑season training and is expected to compete for a starting spot in the centre‑back pairing. His availability for the entire 2024‑25 season should strengthen the club’s defensive unit while giving the defender regular playing time.
