Broja's profanity sparks fury as Burnley slip further from promotion
Burnley’s 2-1 loss to Bristol City on Saturday left the Clarets rooted to the bottom of the Championship, still winless since relegation and only two points from five games, while striker Armando Broja’s profane outburst towards a fan underscored the mounting pressure on Nicky Hayen’s side.
Aaron Ramsey gave the Clarets the lead in the 56th minute, but the Robins equalised through Rob Dickie in the 82nd minute and completed the comeback with Yu Hirakawa’s stoppage‑time winner at Turf Moor. The defeat marked Burnley’s third league loss in as many weeks and saw the Lancashire side watch three points slip away in the closing stages. Their frustration boiled over as the crowd reacted to the late drama.
After the final whistle, Broja was caught on camera in a car park confronting a Burnley supporter, telling the fan to ‘shut your f****** mouth’. The exchange, first published by Getty, showed the 24‑year‑old asking, ‘What have I done? I’ve been rubbish for a year?’ before delivering the profanity. It remains unclear what provoked the heated conversation, but the incident highlighted the strained atmosphere surrounding the club.
Broja’s arrival and record
Broja joined Burnley in August 2025 for a reported £20 million fee after sixteen years at Chelsea, where he progressed from youth to senior ranks. He made 26 appearances in all competitions last season, starting eight in the Premier League, and has featured five times for Burnley this campaign. Internationally, the Albanian forward has earned 37 caps and scored six goals for his country.
Burnley’s struggling campaign
Burnley entered the Championship as promotion favourites, yet after a 2‑2 draw with West Ham on opening day they suffered a 3‑1 loss at West Brom, a heavy defeat by Norwich City and a 1‑1 stalemate with Middlesbrough. Their sole victory this season came in the Carabao Cup, beating Notts County on penalties after a 1‑1 draw, before a 4‑2 shootout loss to Bradford City ended their cup run. The Clarets have now failed to win a league match, remaining winless in England’s second tier since relegation from the Premier League.
Manager Nicky Hayen will be seeking an immediate response when Burnley travel to Wrexham on Tuesday night. The Lancashire side will need to halt their slide and collect points to avoid further isolation at the bottom of the table.
With only two points after five games, Burnley sit rock‑bottom of the Championship, miles from any promotion battle, and the pressure on both players and staff shows no sign of easing.
