Bristol City’s ambition boosted by Emma Bissell’s free return
Emma Bissell, 24, has rejoined Bristol City on a free transfer, the Robins announced on their website this afternoon, marking the club’s fifth signing of the summer window. The midfielder returns for a second spell after previously featuring in the 2020/2021 season.
Bristol City targeted Bissell for her versatility in midfield and her ability to strengthen the central areas of the squad. The Robins see her as a key component in their push for a higher league position this season.
Bissell contributed to Charlton Athletic’s promotion‑winning campaign, featuring in the play‑off tie where the Addicks defeated Leicester City on penalties. That triumph secured the Addicks’ ascent to the top tier.
She previously spent the 2020/2021 season with the Robins, making 18 appearances across all competitions before moving to the United States to combine football with her studies.
Her resume also includes spells at Manchester City and Everton, and she has represented England at Under‑19 level, adding both domestic and international experience to Bristol City’s midfield options.
The free transfer gives Bristol City added depth as they continue an ambitious summer recruitment drive, while Bissell expressed excitement about joining a club with “massive ambition” and a clear direction for the upcoming season.
