Brighton’s €13m gamble on Algerian left‑back Jaouen Hadjam

Brighton & Hove Albion have completed the signing of 23‑year‑old Algerian left‑back Jaouen Hadjam from Swiss side BSC Young Boys, with the club reportedly paying a €13 million transfer fee on the deal that could rise through bonuses as part of their strategic reinforcement plan.

Hadjam arrives with a market value of €7.00 million, making the €13 million fee one of the most expensive departures from Bern, surpassed by only two previous sales.

Previous transfer and fee increase

He moved to BSC Young Boys in early 2024 for €1.3 million from FC Nantes, meaning the current fee represents a ten‑fold increase on his original purchase price.
