Brighton returns to the top and leaves Coventry in the relegation zone
On Sunday, Brighton visited Coventry City at the Coventry Building Society Arena and won 5‑0, returning the win to the club and sinking the hosts even further into the Premier League relegation zone. It was Brighton's fourth consecutive defeat under Frank Lampard, who has yet to score points in his return to the Premier League.
Goals and decisive moments
The first goal came in the 35th minute, scored by the young Greek forward Charalampos Kostoulas. In the second half, Malik Yalcouyé opened the scoring in the 51st minute, followed by the dismissal of Taiwo Awoniyi in the 53rd minute, which reduced Coventry to ten men.
With the numerical advantage, Brighton extended the lead with a penalty converted by Pascal Gross in the 70th minute, then Lewis Dunk scored in the 83rd minute and Yasin Ayari sealed the tally in the 90+4 minute.
Standings after the win
With the win, Brighton jumped to fourth place in the Premier League with seven points, level with Chelsea. Coventry City remains at the bottom of the table, still without points.
Frank Lampard's performance
The run of four defeats in four games keeps Frank Lampard's return to the Premier League a nightmare, still not finding the path to victory.
In the upcoming fixtures, Brighton face Manchester United on Sunday, while Coventry continue to seek their first point in the competition.
The victory reinforces the gap between the two clubs in the table, consolidating Brighton as a candidate for the top of the Premier League.
