Bradley rejects vulnerability talk as Rovers eye European tie

Head coach Stephen Bradley has firmly rejected any suggestion that Shamrock Rovers are vulnerable ahead of their crucial UEFA Conference League play‑off first leg against Finnish champions KuPS, insisting the squad’s character and recent performances leave no room for such headlines.

European setbacks fuel scrutiny

The Irish side began their European campaign on the champions’ path with hopes of breaking new ground, but have slipped to a point of no return after defeats to teams from Malta, Armenia and Albania. A chaotic Europa League exit to Egnatia and an extra‑time loss to St Patrick’s Athletic in the FAI Cup were described by Bradley as the worst performance in his ten‑year tenure, after a 3‑1 lead turned into a 5‑0 half‑time deficit.

Bradley defends squad character

“The players are on it. They’re in a good place,” Bradley said, adding that “it’s not our job to react with emotion and jump on the headline.” He stressed that vulnerability does not exist, emphasizing that “the players give absolutely everything for themselves, the team and the fans,” and that “sometimes to be your best, you have to be vulnerable, give everything and be willing to lose.”

Statistical picture and stakes

Rovers have found the net 17 times in five games across the Premier Division, the FAI Cup and Europe, yet have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of those matches. Their travel record is poor, with five defeats and one draw in six away ties since the 2‑1 win over Santa Clara last season. Domestically they sit seven points clear, eyeing a possible sixth league title in seven years, while progression would secure a minimum prize fund of around €3.7 million.

Matt Healy and Graham Burke have returned to training, but Arsenal‑bound Victor Ozhianvuna remains sidelined with a back injury that requires ongoing dialogue between the clubs.

Tonight’s UEFA Conference League play‑off first leg pits Shamrock Rovers against KuPS at Tallaght Stadium, kick‑off scheduled for 8 pm.
