Bradley calls Bohemians' media ban daft as Rovers gear up for crucial clash
Shamrock Rovers manager Stephen Bradley showed little sympathy for Bohemians after the Dublin side imposed a media ban in protest at the league’s decision to move their Premier Division fixture with Drogheda United forward by 24 hours. Bradley, pictured at the club’s training base on Wednesday, used the controversy to stress his squad’s experience of tight turnarounds.
Background to the dispute
Earlier this month Bohemians announced they would refuse all interview requests after the League of Ireland (LOI) shifted the Rovers‑Drogheda game to Monday, giving the Hoops an extra 24 hours to recover before their own league meeting on Monday 12 October. The club, who host Waterford in the FAI Cup semi‑final on Friday, argued the change disadvantaged them.
Bradley countered that Rovers have regularly coped with short turnarounds because of intense European commitments. “I understand they’re trying to create a siege mentality and all that, but look at what we’ve done for a long period,” he said, adding that several alternative dates had been discussed.
Team news and stakes
The pivotal Premier Division clash takes place tonight, with Rovers sitting third, level on points with St Patrick’s Athletic and Bohemians. A draw is needed to regain top spot, as they hold a game in hand on their rivals.
Bradley provided a fitness update: Naj Razi, injured on Ireland U21 duty, is doubtful, as are Enda Stevens and Lee Grace. Danny Mandroiu is out for the season, Danny Grant awaits specialist advice, and 17‑year‑old Arsenal‑bound Victor Ozhianvuna remains unavailable.
“Victor was back at Arsenal just before the break, progressing really well. They’ve asked us to hold off until next week. It’s just growth,” Bradley explained. “Hopefully we’ll have him for the last few games, but we won’t know until next week.”
He reflected on the season’s absences, noting the loss of Rory Gaffney, John McGovern and Jonathan Afolabi, and the missing contributions of Victor, Naj and Cian Barrett in midfield.
